The Austin Chronicle

Ok, once again this isn't a favorite place or even an event in Austin, but it is a favorite publication from Austin. The Austin Chronicle is an independently owned and operated paper that comes out once a week each Thursday. Its the answer to the one and only daily paper in Austin, the Austin American Statesman, which by many people's standards is too conservative. The Chronicle is free, relying on advertising dollars to keep running, but as it has grown in distribution and quality over the years, it seems to be doing just fine. It doesn't offer up daily news of the local crimes, or the social news like weddings and deaths, but it does have indepth articles on local politics, editorials and syndicated columns that that offer a much different perspective on things than the American Statesman. Plus, as an added bonus, the personal ads can be a real hoot! So next time you are out about town, pick one up and look it over. Its a great read!
